Independence Day Parade
The Parade was wonderful this year. The best part of this year's parade were the Police. They could not have been nicer. Six cruisers showed up, and two bicycle Officers, and they were great. McGruff the Police dog talked to the kids and had pictures taken. The Police let the kids inside their cruisers, and turn on the lights, and took Polaroids for many families. A few lucky kids got beanie baby toys and T shirts courtesy of the Police. The Police led the Parade with two squad cars with lights flashing. Lt. Bob Medairos went out of his way to ensure that we had everything possible. He let us use the PA speaker at the beginning and the end of the Parade (for the awards).
We also had a 20 foot US Flag that was over 100 years old. The flag belonged to Sherry Gainer. It had 45 stars. It was made after Utah was a state, but before Oklahoma. It was very cool. Four people spread it out and carried it, and after the parade, folded it up very nice, and carried it home.
Thank you to Jane Ryan for having the snacks and cookies all laid out on the table before anyone showed up. There were juice boxes and water bottles for everyone that wanted one. Mary Rowland swept the cul de sac and had a table and a trash can out waiting for us. Helen Lydon put up the two banners over the street at the start of the parade, and she and Laura Wyberg lined the parade route with little flags, and had a box of prizes and decorations at the end of the parade waiting for all the kids. Linda Tarr-Wheelan judged the parade, and passed out medals to the kids. And thanks to Astrid Weigert for organizing the event this year.
